TDM continues to expand its sheet metal business
For a year now, our TDM site in Romania has been developing its sheet metal activity by drawing on the Group’s expertise. With one of our long-standing clients, the subsidiary is developing new-generation stainless steel tanks to be used as high-voltage electrical switchgear. The client was looking for a partner close to its new factory in Hungary, and thanks to our quality of service and proximity, we were naturally able to position TDM as the prime supplier for this project.
As part of this project, major investments were made in various sheet metal production facilities: a cutting centre, a press brake, a 3D control arm and, most recently, two welding robots.
The project includes several stages:
- Industrialisation in France, with AIMM teams (53) experienced in laser cutting, bending, welding, studding, and crimping
- Transferring production resources and knowledge to TDM in Romania, beginning with sheet metal processes
- Restructuring the TDM workshops, with a new building dedicated to the sheet metal line
- Moving the last presses in the building to free up space for the sheet metal line.
To date, this ambitious project is making good progress. The new MAG robotic cells have been installed and commissioned at TDM over the past few weeks, and the first 45 tanks have been manufactured locally for the client.
Thanks to support from teams at AIMM (53) and OTIMA (35), the production process is off to a good start with guidance and knowledge-sharing that was much appreciated by the teams.
The next steps are to qualify the product, finalise preparations for mass production, and increase the production rate in the months to come.
